Man & Machine

The Monarch Companies™ have a rich and long history in the heavy fabrication, precision machining and complex assembly business. Through the years we have built a team of old world craftsmen working alongside young apprentices on a collection of some of the most powerful, capable and sometimes exotic machines in the business. This combination of skilled craftsmen, powerful machines and a focus on problem solving enable The Monarch Companies to meet commitments and delight our customers.

Man

Seasoned Craftsman Welder

The combined experience of our teams at Monarch Corporation and Production Tool totals over a millenia. We have journeyman machinists, assemblers (skilled at hydraulics, electrics and mechanical) and certified welders with skills passed up and down the generations. Much of our team would be considered "old world craftsmen" due to their knowledge of skills that are not as commonly found today plus their intimate knowledge of the machines on which they work. Their broad and deep experience gives us the ability to say "we've seen it before" to many complex jobs. Our team also knows that to maintain our level of performance, we need to groom new talent. Our younger craftsmen bring new skills while also participating in apprenticeship programs to learn from our more seasoned staff.

Our support team is also critical to our success delivering excellence to our customers. They provide engineering support, manage our customer relationships, investigate and pass along new learning and serve a problem solving role in support of the craftsmen and customers.

Yes! We're very proud of our collection of amazing, sometimes huge but always effective machines and tools that help us to deliver quality products on schedule. When you work on projects that range in size from modest to unmistakeably HUGE, it takes a special array of lifting systems, skilled workers and tools that can handle the load while still hitting the tolerances that our customers require. In our quest for machines to tackle certain jobs, we sometimes find them in the most unexpected places. Sometimes their original role is no longer needed and they are sitting stagnant, or maybe they are underutilized and we give them a new home where they join a collection of truly powerful and capable machines.

We thought that you might be interested in the backstories for some of our teammates. If you have worked on one of our machines in a past life, or know someone who did, please let us know. We would love to hear your story.

Pearl Harbor Propeller Shaft Lathe

Pearl Harbor Propeller Shaft Lathe

Built in 1905, this Niles Lathe can handle parts up to 160" in diameter, 50' long, and up to 100,000 lbs! Long before this machine was installed at Production Tool in Chicago, it was in use at Pearl Harbor and was used for turning the large propeller shafts on U.S. Navy ships. It actually survived the bombing of Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941 and now sits ready to handle your largest turning jobs! If you or anyone you know, has any further information about this machine, please let us know and we will post your response.
